OK, so I'll admit it. I am stubborn and resistant to change. It stresses me to have to learn a new way of doing things when I am comfortable with the old, simple way. I detest having to read a manual to anything. Don't even want to pick one up most times. Nope, I just let hubby read it from cover to cover and then say, "Now, show me how it works." When I find a comfortable, easy way to do something, I am like Sally the Mule when it comes to changing to something else.Case in point. Cell phones. Give me a basic flip phone that dials numbers and is easy to operate and I am happy. I always said I didn't need any "smart" phone or one that allowed me to check my email or blog just because I could. My husband, on the other hand, who I affectionately call my tech ho', loves new gadgets and gizmos. Oh, give him the latest, greatest anything and he is giddy with excitement and anticipation to see what it can do. And there I am in the corner, protecting my safe, comfortable, old way of doing things with a look of trepidation on my face when he says, "You are going to love this new...!" I feel my stress level rising just with that one comment. "But what's wrong with this one?" I'll whine, "It works just fine for me."
But every now and again, even the mule has to move or be left behind...
To be continued...

Oooh! What did you get!
Oh, you are such a tease! I was salivating anticipating the current example ... okay, I will try to be patient ...
You've made me smile and chuckle reading this...I recognize myself in your words...anxiously awaiting to see what's in store for my friend Sally the Mule! Have a great day!
Can't wait to see what moved the mule!
We're opposite here...I'm the reader of manuals and learn all the features of everything we own. My husband? I had to set up his cell phone contact numbers and voice mail.
That post made me giggle - I am exactly the same way! Have fun!
See, I believe we "mules" are independent thinkers, unswayed by fad or fancy. We know that tried-and-true not only works, but is often cheaper, more efficient, better. Our motto: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go eat lunch using my new electric, digital, HD, 27 megapixel, 500MB fork…
Jayne, you are just like my wife!
Looking forward to the rest of the story!
Jayne - I have a feeling there is new technology in your future!
So what did ya get ... a new smart phone? I'm guessing you did! iPhone or Droid??
I LOVE technology! I might not understand it all but I still love it! I keep trying to get my husband to ditch his old blackberry and get an iPhone like me. So far it's a no go.
Maybe you got an iPad? It's got to be something like that! By the way, if you don't want it, send it to me and I'll use it ; )
I recognize that feeling. Everytime I go to buy something I feel it. Diane
Except for the advantages of modern medicine I basically prefer the 19th century. Gizmoes & their manuals...no thanks. Grizzled has it right. If it works don't fix it.
New England guessed the same thing as me - you got a new phone. I REALLY want a new one - but I call Dr. M once per day (if that). I'm pretty sure I don't need something fancier - especially something that might have games for me to play. That's just ASKING for trouble!
Can't wait to hear whether we're right!
Ok, I can't wait to hear the rest of this story. But, I am like you - give me a simple cell phone and I am more than happy. Thankfully, I was able to get away from the horrors of Verizon for the simplicity of Walmart cell service!
Jane
Like you... I hate reading owner's manuals too and just rely on hubby to teach me how to operate gadget and yes, i always ask too "what's wrong with this one?" when he gets me a new one. I hate cellphones but I need to carry and use one because hubby said I need to. He is the only I really call and a handful of people close to me.
Hahaha "techy ho" Such endearment! I'm the same way with phones, Jayne, not just because simple cells are easier, but because I just have no use for or interest in the frills.
Technology is frustrating, for sure, but I think a big part of that is because the instructions are often so unclear. Either that or whoever you seek help from is unclear or impatient.
From one mule to another, Amen Sister.
