To say thank you

My friend Mata posted a wonderful blog entry about the importance
of expressing appreciation to others. As I read her post, it inspired me
to think about what I could do to let people know how much I
appreciate their efforts and kindness. So many times, we are touched
by someone's kindness, but we fail to really let them know how much it meant.

When I take Sam out to eat, the server finds him waiting to order, along
with his Thomas the Tank Engine book. When my big, almost 17 year old, tells
the server he wants "lots of biscuits and French fries" and they
"get" him, it means so much to me. When they knowingly smile
at me, interact with him, and make sure he is well taken care of in
the biscuit department, and even offer a to-go box for later, it
makes me happy beyond measure. How nice it would be to be
able to leave a card on the table letting them know how much
their kindness and understanding is appreciated.
Thanks for the food for thought Mata.

Ah yes - it's those little moments of kindness and connection that stay with us . . . when someone pays attention and understands. Thank you for your sweet post.

What a wonderful idea. Since those particular acts of kindness regarding Sam happen often enough wouldn't it be fun to have some cards ready to leave with the tip, or tucked under a glass.

And you're right. Kindness matters a great deal, even small gestures. I still want to take cookies or brownies over to the bank to say thank you to the asst. manager who passed me a box of kleenex as I sat in her office and cried the other day. Small gestures have big impact.

Oh wow. Yes, I like the idea of a card to leave with a tip.

Thank you very much for visiting my birds blog and for the comment you left me there.

Even a small dose of kindness goes a long way. Daily courtesies often get lost as we rush around centred on our own agendas. Being kind makes both the giver and recipient feel good.

Hello Jayne! You know, there are so many people that just don't know how to even say, Thank you!
It should come naturally, I feel.
I would love to meet you Sam, he is, I'm sure, precious.
Sometimes, if I've had a great experience while dining, I will jot a quick thank you on an unused napkin. I'm sure it puts a smile on the face of the waitress.

Amen to that.

Kindness is a very big deal. We have been on the receiving end so much over the last year. It's the simple gestures that mean the most and help carry us through.

What a good reminder. That the world is filled with good people. Its hard to remember at times, when you watch the local news, as I did last night. The first 8 stories were all about mayhem, robbery and murder.

What a great idea. I like the idea of leaving a card behind expressing thanks and gratitude. Thank you for posting and reminding us of opportunities to give back.

Sam must be a very sweet soul.
Thank you, Jayne, for reminding us that just thinking about what people are doing for us enriches the experience for everyone.

What a great idea, Jayne. Thanks for reminding me of the importance of showing gratitude and of how far-reaching a simple act of kindness can be.

Alot of times, Jayne, we all just need to step back a minute, think about what is happening around us---and then react to that situation. That's kindness. We step outside of ourselves and our own needs ---and see the needs of others.

Great post.
Hugs,
Betsy

Little things mean a lot and kindness and courtesy seem to becoming more infrequent. I hope you let the manager of the restaurant know how thankful you and Sam are for the wonderful staff working there. I think places like that hear many more complaints than kudos and you would probably make their day too!

Thanks so much for this post Jayne, I also went to your friends blog, and Mata sounds like such a beautiful soul. My thinking hat is on, kindness an appreciation breed the same. We can all take a lesson from this.
Bless You,
Laurie

you are a beautiful person Jayne, and I do love that quote, it is so very true. It doesn't take much really... and yet it is easy to overlook when life gets so chaotic.. much love, Katie
